The EU introduced a regulation in 2009 stating that from November 2014 all new cars must have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This means that as of November 1st, 2012, all new passenger cars and mobile homes that are sold must be equipped with a TPMS. Since November 1, 2014, all newly registered cars and mobile homes must also have a TPMS. Manufacturers therefore install these systems in their new models, but there is no obligation to retrofit older vehicles.

The new regulation requires the installation of tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) in new vehicle models in order to increase road safety, reduce operating costs and reduce environmental pollution. TPMS automatically check the tire pressure and warn the driver of deviations either by displaying them directly in the cockpit or by illuminating a warning light.
