Question: What does TPMS or TPMS mean?

The TPMS system in the car (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) measures the current air pressure in the tire and warns the driver if the pressure in one or more tires is below 25% of the pressure recommended by the manufacturer. Today there are two different types of TPMS systems, direct and indirect. The much better utilized and more precise Direct System uses sensors that are installed on every wheel. These TPMS sensors communicate with the vehicle's TPMS control unit. The indirect system typically uses the speed sensors (ABS sensors) of the vehicle's anti-lock braking system (ABS) to monitor the pressure.
